Happy birthday today [Jan. 31] to Phil Collins who's turning 60. The Grammy-winning singer/drummer started his showbiz career as a child actor -- even appearing as an extra in the Beatle movie, A Hard Days Night [he's in the audience during their concert scene]. A few years after joining the group Genesis as their drummer, he took over vocal duties once frontman Peter Gabriel left for a solo career. Collins sang many of the group's biggest hits before carving out a successful career for himself. Although releasing Going Back in late 2010, he's said he's pretty much through with performing -- although he does intend to continue writing songs. Currently, Collins is finishing up a book on his other passion, the history of the Alamo. It should be released this spring.
