Creative Costume Design

Local business owner / artist Courtney Matthews will work with students ages 14 and up to design and begin constructing their own original costume. Inspiration will be drawn from contemporary fashion designers. 
During the first week, participants will draw inspiration from the works of fashion designers as they begin brainstorming, sketching and planning their own original creation. During the last two sessions, students will be guided as they begin to construct their own costume. Participants will be encouraged to participate in a local fashion parade to showcase their creations. 
A limited amount of materials will be provided.

Brown Bag in Bienville

Show Boat

Show Boat is a 1927 musical in two acts, with music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. Based on Edna Ferber's bestselling novel of the same name, the musical follows the lives of the performers, stagehands, and dock workers on the Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi River show boat, over forty years, from 1887 to 1927.

Shrimp Cook-Off

The event features dozens of shrimp dishes while celebrating volunteerism. Everyone is invited to this family-friendly event, which includes live music, artwork, and a number of activities for the kids. 

Tickets are $10 in advance at HandsOn South Alabama, and at participating Bancorp South locations. You can also get tickets the day of the event at the gate for $15. Proceeds from this event support HandsOn South Alabama and its community programs.

Russian Revolutionaries

University of South Alabama Choir 
The sounds of this season-ending MSO Classic will fill the concert hall with one of the largest orchestras ever assembled on the Saenger Theatre stage combined with a choir directed by Laura Moore. The performance will include Prokofiev’s “Alexander Nevsky” and Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. Saturday's performance is at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday's is at 2:30 p.m.

Screen Printing

Led by artist Sydney Sawyer, this introductory level class will familiarize students with the basics of screen printing. Throughout this course, students will learn about the principles of silkscreen monotype, the reductive process, screen and stencil construction and the drawing fluid method. 

Monday and Thursday sessions are available from 5:30 to 8:30. Both classes will run for 5 weeks.

Acrylic Painting

Led by instructor Lucy Gafford, this introductory level class is geared towards the beginner, or those wanting to brush up on acrylic painting techniques and problem-solving. 
During the class, participants will focus on a wide variety of subjects, including still life, painting from photographs, portraits, copying various other painters’ techniques and exploring painting on different surfaces.
All levels are welcome and all supplies are included.
