Travel should take you places... it took me to Hawai'i last year. Beautiful!
Favorite American Idol, past or present: Officially, it's Diana until another one (read: Kelly Clarkson) will be in a picture with me.
Intern Sha Sha heads back to The Hill next week, but before she goes, we had one last assignment--an insider's look at Back To School Shopping for a college student. Before you shop, check out her words of advice!!
HELLO LITE MIX FAM! It's Sha Sha the intern, or as everybody else likes to say 'Intern Sha Sha'. Besides my name, it is my last day interning with Mary and Mason :'(. It's sad that I have to leave, but my duties as a captain of the Volleyball team are calling me...a little nervous about preseason. Shhh, don't tell my coach.
Anyway, the Sales Tax Holiday is here, and a lot of you are going back-to-school shopping at some point this weekend. I need to do that considering the fact that I move in on Monday. I go to Spring Hill College by the way, just in case you were wondering.
But from a college student's perspective, I find myself buying things that I don't necessarily need at college or that I think I might need, but end up not using at all. So not all of my mom's money goes to waste… just a little bit. Don't tell her I said that!
However, since I have been in college for three years now, going on four, I know what I need and what I don't need for my dorm and classes. So, I'm going to give some TIPS on what is NECESSARY to bring to college if you’re first-time college students and parents.
Let's talk about dorm room supplies...
TV/refrigerator/microwave...This is where you have to really think about your habits and who you are as a person. If you're the type of person who reeeally doesn't like to share your food and likes to watch your tv shows, then you should probably get your own tv and refrigerator. You can share a microwave, no problem. Sometimes the cafe doesn't have good food or some would rather eat what's in their rooms. This is a GREAT way to avoid the "Freshmen 15" because the cafe is nothing but a big buffet. Don't want to suprise your family during Christmas break with a whole new you!
Cleaning Supplies - GET THEM! The dorms are going to be dusty and kind of dirty and you're going to need to clean them (I shouldn't be telling anybody to clean, I hate cleaning! Sad, I know.)...If you're sharing a bathroom (non-communal) then get TOILET PAPER!! Ha Ha...
DO NOT PACK THE ENTIRE CLOSET!!! Over-packing is the worst! I do it A LOT, so I know. ONLY pack the clothes you know for sure that you're going to actually wear. You won't realize how much you've packed until you get to your dorm and you realize all of your clothes are not going to fit in the closet and/or the drawers. You will acquire more shoes, clothing and accessories while you're in college, which adds more things to pack and much more of a hassle. LESS PACKING IS LESS OF A HASSLE!!
Note To Self: If you have to use a UHAUL truck to bring your things or you have to have a storage room for the extra stuff that you brought to college, YOU HAVE TOO MUCH STUFF!!! DON'T BE “THAT” PERSON!! Completely unnecessary..
In regards to class supplies & first week of classes...
In the end, try to save as much money as possible by buying the things you know FOR SURE that will be beneficial and will help make the first year of college, one of the best years of college. HAPPY SHOPPING! :)
