Cirque du Soleil is coming to the Mitchell Center with Quidam -- the story of Zoé, a bored young girl who slides into an imaginary world and meets characters who encourage her to free her soul. Like every Cirque du Soleil show, Quidam features spectacular acrobatics that seem to defy gravity and the laws of physics.
Recently, we caught up with one of those incredible performers on a pre-show tour through Mobile. Adrienn Banhegyi is part of the jump rope act; and along with the other performers, has taken skipping rope to a whole new level. It seems like magic, but Adrienn says it's really just a lot of practice. And we'd add some incredible natural ability.
Here's that interview:
Quidam will be at the Mitchell Center from March 20th-24th, and you can buy your tickets HERE, or at the Mitchell Center box office.

The great thing about this year's Academy Award nominees is that most of them were big movies and easy to find. Even "The Simpsons" got an Oscar nod for Best Animated Short with Maggie's star turn in "The Longest Daycare."
So for once, it's actually rather easy to see the 9 Best Picture nominees if you missed one or two. Here's a handy guide to where they're available.
Argo -- In a limited number of theaters, playing at Carmike Wynnsong in Mobile, plus theaters in Gulf Breeze, Pensacola, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. These showtimes are valid through Thursday, and only Pensacola's Carmike 10 and the Carmike (Rave) theater at The Wharf have showtimes listed for Friday and beyond.
Les Miserables -- In a limited number of theaters, just the Carmike 12 in Daphne, and the Carmike 15 at The Wharf in Orange Beach. Les Miz will continue into next week at these theaters.
Zero Dark Thirty -- Still in theaters with wide release.
Amour -- This is one of just two limited release films among the nominees, but it's currently playing at the Crescent Theater in Downtown Mobile, and in Pensacola at the Carmike Bayou 15. The film is in French, with English subtitles.
Django Unchained -- The Quentin Tarentino film has been around awhile, but is still playing in three theaters locally: Hollywood Stadium 18, Premiere Cinema @ Eastern Shore Center, and the Carmike theater at The Wharf. By Friday, only the Carmike Wharf 15 lists showtimes.
Silver Linings Playbook -- Still in theaters with wide release
Life of Pi -- Still playing at the Carmike 10 in Pensacola, but it's also available on demand through Amazon and several additional outlets. The DVD is not available until March 12th.
Lincoln -- In a limited number of theaters, including Hollywood Stadium 18, Carmike Wharf 15 and Carmike W Street in P'Cola. No showings listed at Hollywood beyond Thursday.
Beasts of the Southern Wild -- The movie is set in the Louisiana bayou, and it was only available in limited theatrical release. But it's now widely available on-demand and on DVD.

The casino wars are back.
Alabama's Attorney General Luther Strrange is suing to shut down the electronic bingo games at Wind Creek Casino in Atmore, along with other Poarch Creek gambling centers. Of course, those games look suspiciously like slot machines, which are illegal under Alabama law. But the casino says these are actually electronic bingo; and because bingo is legal under state law, the National Indian Gaming Commission says they can run bingo in whatever form they choose. The story is at al.com.
The AG also shut down the non-Indian Victoryland Casino in Shorter, Alabama.
It's time to prepare for severe weather....whether it's hurricanes or tornadoes. This weekend, the state of Alabama and many cities/counties are exempting the purchase of everything from duct tape to generators (within certain guidelines), to make sure we're prepared for whatever weather comes our way.
Items covered by the state sales tax holiday include:
The covered items must cost $60 or less, except for generators, which are covered as long as they cost $1,000 or less.

Mobile may have been slighted by Carnival, when it comes to hotel, airline, and other business from the disabled Triumph cruise ship, but the city was shown some love by CNN's Erin Burnett....and lots of people are spreading the news all over Facebook. Feel free to join them!
THIS WEEK'S PRIZES:
Delilah was on CBS This Morning, talking about love songs on this Valentines Day. We also got a look inside Delilah's life at home:
Katherine Webb is starting to become pretty well known by her own name, and not simply "AJ McCarron's girlfriend." The beauty queen is featured in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, NOT having to make a choice between Auburn and Alabama. There's not a lot of jersey there, but what little there is... is a house divided.
